A Personal Reflection

We are subjected to some rather horrid news on a daily basis in this troubled world of ours. My thoughts are inescapably occupied with them when I'd rather be thinking of the beautiful things, the simple pleasures that life can provide. You'll know what they are for you personally, but sometimes we take them for granted. Spare a moment to share your good fortune no matter how big or small with those you love. Thank those whom you are grateful to have in your life.

Love is...

For quite a number of years Phyllis and I followed a single picture strip in the daily newspaper about "love is."

It disappeared at some point in time, but we enjoyed it as a married couple who truly believe in romance and being friends, and never losing the magic of what attracted us to each other. Just recently I came across a Pinterest site where it is very obvious that the "poster" feels the same way we do. Here is just one of the hundreds of illustrations that I know can be found on the internet. We also had an artist create our own personal drawing which hangs on the wall in our house. It says - love is being married to Phyllis.

Fashion and good taste

How times have changed. Not that many years ago a young lady would have been mortified if she was asked to wear torn jeans. Now they're paying hundreds, and in Amal's and LeAnn's case's, perhaps thousands of dollars because it's considered fashionable. I'm not sure I could be convinced that anyone, male or female is intelligent, or even mentally stable if they subscribe to this nonsense. Then again, when I see the type of people we elect into office to be our representatives I guess nothing should surprise me anymore.

Just when you think it couldn't get worse I offer this.  Back in the 70's I regularly had lunch at Tracton's on La Cienega near Rodeo. Tony Bennett used to partake of lunch there with Nancy Wilson while they were working together at a nearby movie studio. They were always tastefully attired and to this day he maintains that standard. He has made a career of performing not just solo but with a long list of other celebrities. Very recently I came across this photo and I was somewhat astonished. He and Lady Ga Ga did an event together and here she is leading him into the venue. He has a somewhat sheepish look on his face but as far as I know he went ahead with the commitment. I'm no prude, and I love the beauty of the female form but not like this.

Sent to me by a friend.  Its been around many times, but it always elicits a chuckle!

The Haircut!

 

Blessed are those that can give without remembering, and take without forgetting.

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.'

The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

 

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill , the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.' The cop was happy and left the shop.

The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank you ' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill , the barber again replied, 'I can not accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

As Ronald Reagan said:

BOTH POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!

If you don't forward this you have no sense of humor.

Nothing bad will happen, however, you must live with yourself knowing that laughter is not in your future!

Sorry for the hiatus. Lost my son-in-law to cancer. Sadness in the family and a need to rally the troops so to speak. Adjustments take time, but the worst is over and a positive outlook is essential to moving forward. I will be posting again somewhat regularly and I have some fictional ideas stirring for the future. I have some serious concerns about our societal problems and will be commenting on them more than I would like to...but the topic is vital for all of us. I want to allocate a substantial portion of this blog to good thoughts, good taste, and humor. We need to be entertained to some extent or life would quickly become grimmer than it need be. As individuals we are sometimes careless about our life management actions - and with the rapid international, domestic, and local changes we are being forced to face, it is imperative that we exert a higher degree of discipline and thought to how we can be better persons in our relationships with others.
I am genuinely interested in your thoughts and comments.

How did we get the name Goleta...and what does it mean? A Goleta is a schooner - and if you go to goletahistory.com you will spend many a fascinating hour learning all about our wonderful "good land".

Not only is the area rich in history but the articles are illustrated with a plethora of photos and drawings. I've lived on the Central Coast, and particularly in Goleta for a long time, and I am astonished at what I've learned in just a brief visit to this website. There are other links that seem to be worth our attention too.
